Upskirt Photographer Goes Free

By Christina Quick | March 12, 2008

gavel.jpgThe Oklahoma Court of Appeals today ruled in favor of a man who took pictures up a teenage girl’s skirt at a Target store.

According to the ruling, the girl was not “in a place where there is a right to a reasonable expectation of privacy,” the state’s legal requirement for prosecution in such cases.

Testimony indicated the 34-year-old man knelt behind the teen and placed the camera under her skirt. I doubt the average Target shopper is expecting that!

In a dissenting opinion, Appeals Judge Gary Lumpkin called the ruling “disturbing.”

“What this decision does is state to women who desire to wear dresses that there is no expectation of privacy as to what they have covered with their dress,” Lumpkin said.

Moms and dads take note. With today’s technology, it’s easy for a pervert to mount a cheap camera on the toe of his shoe or in some other location that provides a vantage point up skirts and loose shorts. These images are often posted on the Internet and referred to as “upskirts.” There are entire Web sites devoted to “upskirt” photos of minors.

This case is an unfortunate reminder of the need for caution. As with other safety issues, if someone is behaving in a suspicious manner or a situation just doesn’t feel right, trust your instincts and remove yourself and your children from the scene. Teach your kids to be on guard as well.

What are your thoughts on the Target incident and the court’s ruling?

No expectation of privacy?? This is absurd. ABSURD. Thanks for sharing. It makes me want to look into it some more.

This is truly disturbing! And more proof of the increasing ridiculousness of protecting the freedom of perpetrators at the expense of the innocent. Thanks for sharing with us.
